Dean’s Office of the faculty of Buddhist studies, Lumbini Buddhist University conducted a
three days seminar on the semester system syllabus of five master’s degrees such as Applied
Buddhism, Theravada Buddhism, Mahayana Buddhism, Peace Studies and Buddhist Studies
respectively on 14,15 and 16 of November 2019. Respected Vice Chancellor of L.B.U., Prof.
Dr. Hridayaratna Bajracharya was the Chief Guest, Registrar of L.B.U., Dr. Tilakram Acharya
was Special Guest and Dr. Manik Ratna Shakya, the Dean of Faculty of Buddhist Studies was
the Chairman. The seminar Inaugural session began with the welcome speech by the Dean
who also put light on the program schedule.
The program of the first day was divided into three sessions. First session started with
Mahayana Buddhism II semester syllabus. Moderator of the program was Dr. Manik Ratna
Shakya. There were four papers in total. Each paper was presented by respective subject
experts followed by comments thereof. Second session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Ved Giri.
Subject was Applied Buddhism II semester syllabus and six papers were discussed in this
session. Prof. Dr. Gitu Giri chaired the last session. Subject was Buddhism and Peace Studies
II semester syllabus. Six papers in total were presented by the experts.
Prof. Dr. Ranjana Bajracharya moderated the first session of the second day seminar. It was
started with Theravada Buddhism II semester syllabus. There were six papers in this session.
Subject discussed in the second session was Buddhist Studies I semester syllabus, which was
chaired by Dr. Mohan Khattiwada. Five subjects were discussed in the second session. Third
session was chaired by Dr. Surendraman Bajracharya, and subject discussed in this session
was Applied Buddhism III semester. Four papers were presented by the experts which were
commentated and discussed by the teachers.
In the third day, first session was moderated by Dr. Triratna Manandhar. Third semester
syllabus of Mahayana Buddhism was presented by the experts and there were five papers in
total. Third semester syllabus of Buddhism and Peace Studies was discussed in second
session which was chaired by Dr. Sharada Poudel.
The Teachers of Lumbini Buddhist University and of the affiliated colleges, fifty in total,
participated in the seminar. In this three days seminar all the syllabi were discussed
thoroughly and the suggestions were given by the commentators and participated teachers.
After the closing speech by Dr. Manik Ratna Shakya, the Dean of Faculty of Buddhist Studies,
the program was concluded.
