Bhavatu Sabba Mangalam
Welcome to the School of Development Studies & Applied Sciences. As a part of the Lumbini Buddhist University, established in 2004 in response to the 1st World Buddhist Summit held in Lumbini in 1998, this School was created in 2019 to internalizing Buddha’s teachings for practical applications of contemporary applied sciences towards sustainable livelihood.
We are located at Devdaha, the Mawali (maternal home) of Siddhartha Gautam Buddha, approximately 50 kilometer east of Lumbini, Nepal. You will discover a tranquil environment of forests, streams and agricultural land inhabited by a friendly community.
We offer three master programs on agroforestry, development & environmental studies that have been designed within the framework of Buddhist concepts of Tapovana (meditation grove) and the notions of Ahimsa (non-violence). With these programs, we offer experiential learning opportunities such as monastic experience, internship and outreach services for the learners. We follow learner-centered pedagogical approaches such as indoor & open-air classes, open & distance learning, mindful-communications and so forth.
We encourage learners to be engaged in productive works of their choices through action research, entrepreneurships, cooperatives and extension in a community. We also encourage them to be proactive in networking and exchange programs for academic discourse.
We are open to people from all walks of life for sharing their valuable knowledge and experience in the areas of agro-forestry, environment and development. We pledge for interface between academia and value based development programs.
